Egypt-Sudan crossing update 2: official opening

The new land border crossing between Egypt and Sudan, which I first wrote about just over a year ago, has now been officially opened.

This means the Wadi-Halfa to Abu Simbel route should finally be drivable, with only a short hop on a boat across the lake from Qustul.

The transliteration of the Arabic name for this place, أشكيت, varies: Sudanese sources apparently tend to use Eshkeet while Egyptian sources use Occhet; Germans like to use Aschkeit. Also, Qustul is sometimes spelled Qastal, Gustul or Quastul.

Roland Unger wrote a nice overview of this crossing and the route in general over at the German wikivoyage.
